Every Tuesday we come to visit Tamaki College for something called ‘Tech’. Tech is made up of either 5 to 4 classes; Science/STEM, Cooking, Hard Material, Sewing, and Te-oro. We usually rotate every 11-12 weeks to a different class or subject. This term, my group and I are in STEM. Today in STEM class we learned the safety rules of a bunsen burner, and how we should use it.
A bunsen burner has many risks, and you should always follow any safety procedures you might’ve learned.
HOW TO USE A BUNSEN BURNER:
- Place the burner on a workboard and clear the space
- Connect the hose securely to the gas tap
- Close the air hole by turning the collar
- Light the matches or the lighter
- Turn the gas tap on
- Put the flame to the top of the barrel for the gas to light up
- Turn The collar to adjust the flame to blue or yellow as needed
